Visiting sunny LA

The latest planning session to come to the surface this week is a trip to LA in May with my bff! Her sister has been there for the past six months on exchange and sadly it’s time for her to come home! We’ve decided she can’t come home without a send off without her sissy and myself coming to help her move home (in the midst of a week-long vacation that is). We’ve been tossing the idea around for a few months now and have actually gotten serious about it over the last couple of days. The big thing stopping me is the possibility of interrupting and internship which is def not an option since I am going to be graduating in the next few weeks! LA is a dream vacation for me and I have wanted to visit for quite some time. From the Walk of Fame to celebrity house tours there is so much to see and do not including the beaches! The first stop on the tour would be Santa Monica! It’s rich vibe and fabulous beaches and shopping rate it as a must see if you’re in LA. Then obviously Newport Beach and Orange County rank high on my things to do since my Saturday mornings are spent watching The Real Housewives of Orange County on Slice. I love those ladies! Since our friend is staying in Marina Del Ray, renting a car is a must! LA isn’t like New York where everything is central and easy to get to by foot. LA is a monstrosity of different places and driving to them is best; walking may take you the whole trip! I suggested that an eating tour of the city would be best, housing some of the greatest chefs of all time and tons of award winning restaurants it is not a place you’ll go hungry in. The only downside to this trip is the 5.5 hour long plane ride and the chance that my internship may overlap and not allow me to go! (Which in reality an internship and my career is def more important…let’s keep telling myself that)

I’ll keep everyone posted on this one! Hopefully it all works out! For now I can just dream about running into Mr. Clooney while I’m shopping on Rodeo!

The Ladies and I head to Vegas!

Sooner or later you have to see Las Vegas; it’s just that type of place. This past week I sat down with a few of my girlfriends to plan our annual getaway, we want to have fun but relax at the same time. We collectively decided that it was time to see the marvel that is known to be Las Vegas and it seemed like the right fit. There is so much to see and do in Vegas that once we made our decision we dove right into planning sincewe wanted to make the most out of our time. We’ve decided to aim for September (a time when all of us can actually afford to go!) Timing is key; don’t plan a girls getaway when not everyone can come and make sure weather and other considerations are made.

So September it is! It’s really exciting to sit down and plan with the ladies what hotels we would look at. Would we make the trip like the Hangover and stay at Caesar’s Palace or do we want to go more Ocean’s 11 and reach for the MGM Grand or Bellagio. The hotel possibilities are endless but we had it narrowed down to the MGM Grand and felt like this was the best choice. Obviously you could stay anywhere in Las Vegas and have a great time but make the most out of your stay by choosing a hotel that fits your taste.

We decided that a definte on the list was seeing the latest Cirque show and making sure we visited all of the casinos! We also found out that touring the hotels was big on the things to do while in Vegas and each hotel housed a unique thing. Treasure Island holds a pirate battle every half hour or so, The Mirage has an active volcano that erupts every hour and can be watched from afar while the Wynn is home to beautiful architecture and designs and just walking through it is beauty enough. The ladies and I are also big foodies so we researched our restaurants and found from Emeril to even Bobby Flay eating like queens was going to happen.

Once this trip happens I’ll be sure to blog more about it! Hopefully as you read this it inspires you to sit down and plan a trip with your closest friends!!

Two weeks of fresh fish and drunken board games

Last summer I had the pleasure of spending two weeks in one of the most beautiful places I have ever seen. Beautiful yes, entertaining…NOT AT ALL! Petty Harbour, Newfoundland. My uncle is originally from there and when I was asked to tag along on the two week adventure with my aunt and the kids I couldn’t resist. It was definitely a family packed trip that included; my aunt, uncle, three cousins, a girlfriend and two grandparents. Not your typical idea of two weeks of fun but it turned out surprisingly well. I’ve never gotten the opportunity to travel across Canada, other than the odd trip to Ottawa so this was a great chance to see the East Coast and bask in its beauty. I thought it was a stereotype when I first arrived but all I did for two weeks was drink and eat fresh fish; def not complaining on my part but other than that and sightseeing the place didn’t have much to offer. You could walk for days and days and see magnificent sights of whales and cliffs and rolling hills and an endless array of sunrises and sunsets.

The beauty of the landscape was breathtaking to say the least and the food was amazing! There is nothing like walking out your backyard window to meet a fisherman who gives you his catch of the day and eating it two hours later. The simplicity of the harbour was something I was not used to and it made the two weeks a bit challenging. Without the computer or cell phone my cousins and I were forced to take nature walks and go whale watching. I don’t really mean forced but we weren’t accustomed to the slow easy lifestyle that most Newfoundlanders (who we came in contact with) led. My favourite part of the trip was sitting at the kitchen window having my morning coffee and being able to look out into the ocean and watch the sunrise, along with the whales that would surface every now and then. You don’t really think of the beauty that these places hold and when you see them in real life it is amazing. When you’re in a fishing boat and the gigantic whale is 3 feet away it really puts things into perspective.

Travelling around Canada is an amazing thing to do and Newfoundland was a beautiful place. I highly recommend a trip out there to anyone!

Keep these three simple steps in mind when sitting down to choose a honeymoon destination…

2) Picking a duration? How much time can you take off of work?

3) Budget. Pinching those pennies may result in a much needed honeymoon but staying on budget can provide you with a great vacation. When on a budget pick certain times of the year that aren’t expensive or shorten the length of stay to your dream location.

By following these simple steps it is easy to identify what you need and want from a honeymoon. Keep the planning simple and straightforward this way you’re not stressed out by a good thing.

Barfalo? Buffalo? The armpit of the USA!

Today I’m headed off to Buffalo to do a little family day shopping! Since the “invention” of family day the ladies and I have always set aside the day to go to Buffalo and shop. It is called family day but we have happily boycotted family hang outs in exchange for outlets, malls and The Cheesecake Factory. Since I’m on the road this post will be short and sweet but a little blurb about our mini vacay was a must! We’ve been to Buffalo so many times before so other than shopping there really isn’t anything to do. In the summer we came for 3 days and ventured to Darien Lake and spent the day tanning and riding the coasters! Not such a fan of roller coasters myself so I sat and sampled the funnel cakes and stared at the cute boys passing by the wave pool. So for this family day we decided to check out the outlets and hit them up and do some damage. Coach, Gap, Banana Republic, Saks; there are so many to choose from and not enough time. The border crossing is a tad scary especially when you’re crossing with amounts of clothing that could potentially but even Paris Hilton in jail. This goes to show you that little getaways are great for getting out of where you live and being somewhere different; even if it’s stinky Buffalo! (did I say that out loud?)

Since I was eight years old I have gone away consistently every year, with both family and friends. I got the travel bug young and have loved it ever since! Each vacation has a different feel, all inclusive are laid back and relaxed while different cities are full of touring around and shopping. Both are great times and I’ve done so many trips over the years that I love them both.

Let’s start with the all inclusive; the week long trip that involves nothing but sitting on the beach with your favorite book, 15spf and the new shades you bought before you left. Staring at the white sand and clear water the view takes your breathe away and the week passes you by in a flash. Dominican Republic has been the family’s first choice over the last few years and with its remarkable beaches and consistent weather it has proved nothing but great family vacations! Now the touring vacations to Arizona and Europe are different then those spent relaxing by the beach. There is so much to see and do that sitting on a lawn chair for a week is unheard of. Driving along the Amalfi Coast or hitting up the Grand Canyon the treasures are not very hard to find. When touring places such as these you always have to remember to bring a map! Making the most out of your vacation by planning what you’re going to see and being organized. You have travelled a great distance so you definitely want to make sure that you see all there is to see.

Over the next couple of weeks I’ll take you to the places I’ve been and want to go and show you destinations that are breathtaking and must visits!

Start spreadin’ the news….

So this past week I had the pleasure of travelling with 3 other girlfriends to New York City! I know it sounds cliché but I love New York and the vibe it gives every time I visit. For about four years now I’ve gone twice a year; usually once with my girlfriends and the second time to visit family both in Brooklyn and New Jersey. I love being in Manhattan and just love the overall atmosphere of the city; its bright lights, tall buildings and gorgeous men! (Which I totally realized was the case this past trip!) They were literally everywhere you turned! Working in the stores, walking around Times Square even in the little Panini place outside our hotel. Moving on…this trip was a little different; we were lucky enough to stay at the W Times Square for the four days and had an amazing view of the city. Let me tell you a teensy secret about this hotel; they have carpets in the elevator that greet you! One in the morning, one in the afternoon and one at night; now if that isn’t high class I’m not sure what is! The experience at the W was incredible and if I had to go back to New York I would skip eating for five days just to sleep in their beds (which by the way formed to your body and gave you the best sleep of your life). Another must do touristy thing while in New York is having french toast at Serendipity! Smothered in fruit and whip cream on challah bread this was the greatest french toast I have ever had! Oh and Oprah’s fav frozen hot chocolate is a must have!

All in all the four days flew by way too fast! New York is a great place to be and I will live there one day! (when I become Editor-in Chief at Vogue….maybe?)
